Picking your Maid of Honor 101

Hello lovelies,

Weddings, even with a supportive fiancé (haha), helpful family members, and a wedding planner, can be stressful even at the best of times. There’s always so much to think about from the florals to the giveaways, to the entertainment, downright to the linens, photographer, menus, cake, and the list goes on.

If all of the above wasn’t enough, then comes in the hard, downright brutal, challenging decision of choosing your maid of honor might just send you spiraling into the Bridezilla mode (oh yes, we said it.)

However – hold fire, & Relax! We’ve got you covered on how do you pick that one friend or relative out of the very many bridesmaids that you have for this very critically imperative spot. Would your maid of honor be that friend whose wedding you were the maid of honor at? Or would it be your sister – for no reason other than, well, because she’s your sister? There are no hard and fast rules as to who can fill this chief spot and if you wish, you can even pick a Man of Honor instead because…why the hell not? It’s your wedding, and your decision at the end of the day! Whoever it is that you end up picking, make sure they are aware of what is expected out of them – from cold feet, to wedding planner meetings, to DIY projects to dress trials, so on and so forth.

If we are being very transparent, we recommend, evaluate your bridesmaids/bridesmen; and by that, we mean, really evaluate them – don’t be shy to express it, even if it comes across as rude (your bridesmaids will love you anyway.)

Think of your family members before branching into looking at your friends.
Peer pressure is real – and don’t feel obligated or pressured into picking your maid of honor because, “It’s the right thing to do,” or because “It’s expected of you.”

Make all of your bridesmaids feel valued while making this decision – but value your decision and feelings first.

Finally, our last piece of advice – go with your gut. There is nothing & nobody else in the world that will guide you better to derive this decision (or any other for that matter!)

Until the next time, our lovely readers.
